Welcome to the latest edition of Ten from Ted. With the recent death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the world turned its focus to Iran, and I want to keep the focus there. Here are ten things the world needs to focus on right now when it comes to Iran.
HIGHLIGHTS ANDREFLECTIONS
1) Iran’s Nuclear Weapons Program | If the Islamic Republic of Iran is allowed to develop nuclear capabilities, it will pose an existential threat to Israel, the region, and the world. I am calling on the IAEA, the UN’s nuclear watchdog, to take urgent action.
2) Designating Iran’s IRGC as a Terror Group | AJC reiterates its long-standing call for the European Union to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terror organization for its role in threatening Israel, the Middle East, and global security.
3) Protect Jewish Communities Around the World | The IRGC actively targets Jewish communities in Europe and around the world. If countries are serious about protecting their Jewish populations, they must guard against the IRGC.
4) How Iran Continues to Destabilize the Middle East | From Yemen to Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza—the IRGC terrorizes the region.
5) Confronting Iranian-Backed Hezbollah | Hezbollah, the Iranian terror proxy, attacks Israel on a daily basis with drones and rockets in violation of international law.
6) Ending Russia’s War of Aggression Against Ukraine | The IRGC is a core component of the Iran-Russia strategic partnership. As Iranian drones are being used by Russia in its war against Ukraine and as Iran sends ballistic missiles to Russia, a comprehensive approach to countering Russia’s aggression must take into account the IRGC.
7) Iran’s Human Rights Violations | The Iranian regime continues to commit egregious human rights violations, including against its own citizens. The regime’s human rights violations against the people of Iran — from violence against women to targeting religious minorities — must be a focus of the world.
9) Responding to Iran's Direct Attack on Israel | In April, Iran fired over 300 drones and missiles at Israel, in the regime’s first-ever direct attack on the Jewish state. We must recognize the threat Iran poses to global security requires a global response.
10) Demanding Justice for Victims of the Bombing Attack on AMIA | This July 18th marks the 30th anniversary of the AMIA bombing, an Iranian-sponsored terrorist attack at the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that killed 85 people and injured over 300. We must continue to demand justice for victims.
